Many people either don’t have the time or the know how to change their own oil so they find themselves going to those fast oil change service station. Yet are most of these oil change places on the up and up? I propose that you steer clear of these quick oil change places and find an honest auto mechanic instead and I’ll explain why.
Every car or truck features a basic upkeep plan and guidelines on what things should be done after so many miles. Such things as oil changes, air filter changes and other commonly scheduled maintenance. Even so have you really read the owner’s instructions for your car? One thing is that your manual will not say that your car will need to have its oil changed every 3000 miles. In fact if you look in your book you may find that you only have to change your oil every 6,000 or even 7,000 miles. So, if you think about this, these speedy oil change places are lying to you so they can take your money.
Also if you read through your owners manual you can see a schedule for changing your air filter. With regard to my car experts recommend to change my air filter every 2 years or when it is stopped up. The truth is, I hadn’t changed the filter in four years because the device still looked pretty good, however I changed it anyway. But why is it that every time I used to visit the oil change places they let me know I need a new air filter? At one time I went down and replaced my air filter and 6 months later I went to an oil change place and they told me I needed a new air filter. There seemed to be a very minor discoloration and I was told that it was at the first stages of clogging. Interestingly, I told them that I replaced the filter just six months ago and their reply was that I would need to change it in another six months.
What’s remarkable is that they first told me that the filter needed to be changed. Consequently when I told them about the new air filter, they changed their reply. That is just 100 % dishonesty followed by covering their butt’s.
One additional thing that one of these shops managed to do was change my transmission fluid once. I know they tell you it must be changed whenever you go in there. On one occasion, when they told me, I allowed them to do it. Then, when I went back to get my oil changed a few months later, they told me I seriously needed to have my transmission fluid changed. There after, I never went to these shops ever again.
I no longer go to these quick oil change places and instead have found the right mechanic to work on my car. Believe it or not, many of these people who work at the quick oil change places have never had any education in fixing cars. That’s the reason you are better off finding a certified mechanic.
