From the two previous posts on Car Registration Online Services, we have listed the requirements New Registration, both for locally purchased or assembled or rebuild as well as for those motor vehicles that are imported. For this post of car registration services, we will list down the requirements and procedures for the most common LTO transaction of them all – renewing the car/vehicle registration.
Renewal of Registration for Private Vehicles
For Private Vehicles, here are the things that you should prepare in renewing registration:
Documents Required
- Original Certificate of Registration (CR) and latest original Official Receipt (OR) of payment
- Appropriate Insurance Certificate of Cover
- Motor Vehicle Inspection Report (MVIR) [Download this form here]
- Taxpayer’s Identification Number (TIN)
- Early Warning Device
Public Utility (For Hire) Vehicles
There is a slight difference if you are registering (renewal) a public or for hire vehicles. Next section below enumerates the required documents you should prepare if this is the one applicable to you.
Documents Required
- Confirmation of Franchise from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) with copy of Decision/Order
- Original Certificate of Registration (CR) and latest original Official Receipt (OR) of payment
- Common Carrier Tax (from the Bureau of Internal Revenue)
- Appropriate Insurance Certificate of Cover
- Motor Vehicle Inspection Report (MVIR) [Download this form here]
- Taxpayer’s Identification Number (TIN)
For both Private and Public type of vehicles, the procedure for registration renewals are the same:
- Proceed to the transaction counters and submit all the required documents to the Evaluator for evaluation and computation of fees.
- Actual inspection of motor vehicles with duly ccomplished MVIR. (This form is available for download here. You can accomplish this form prior to transacting your business at the LTO.)
- Proceed to the Cashier when your name is called for the necessary fees and obtain an Official Receipt (OR).
- Proceed to the Releasing Counter when your name is called to obtain the Certificate of Registration (CR), plates, stickers, and other requested documents.
Some tips that I read online:
Before you go the MVIS. Be sure your car has the following in working order.
- Headlights, dim & beam, properly aligned
- Signal lights, front & back
- Park, tail & brake lights
- Plate lights
- Back-up lights (the light when you go on reverse)
- Wiper
- Horn
- Suspension system
- Wheels aligned
The procedure for registration renewal may seem easy, and yes it is, but you need to spend valuable time and a little (a lot) of sweat!
